Nora Aunor and director Brillante Mendoza brought honor to the country again by bagging two awards at the 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) for the movie “Thy Womb.”
According to APSA’s website, Nora won for Best Performance by an Actress, besting fellow nominees Vidya Balan from India (The Dirty Picture), Cho Min-Soo from South Korea (Pieta), Humaima Malick (Bol) from Pakistan, and Darya Ekamasova from Russia (Zila bila odna baba).
Nora played an infertile Badjao midwife in the film.
Brillante, on the other hand, won the Achievement in Directing award.
Nora and Brillante were not able to attend the awards night in Brisbane, Australia on Friday, November 23, because they were in Davao for the premiere of “Thy Womb.”

Chris Martinez, who was nominated for Best Screenplay for “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank,” failed to get the award, but director Marlon Rivera won the APSA Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Development Award. The Best Screenplay award went to Turkish director Reis Çelik for “Lal Gece.”
“MARLON RIVERA awarded the APSA NETPAC award w/ a film development prize of $5,000 for ANG BABAE SA SEPTIC TANK,” Chris said in his official Twitter account on Friday, November 23.
