Nora, Mendoza win special awards in Venice

“Thy Womb” director Brillante ‘Dante’ Mendoza won the Premio della Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo e della Rivista del Cinematografo" at the ongoing 69th Venice International Film Festival, where the indie film is vying for Golden Lion Award – the highest in the annual event.

The good news was announced in “Thy Womb’s” Facebook page, where it was also learned that lead star Nora Aunor bagged a special award called the Bisato d'Oro prize (given by an Italian group of independent film critics).

“Thy Womb” and Nora are favorites in tomorrow’s awards rites, which her co-stars Lovi Poe and Mercedes Cabral are  also gracing as part of the Philippine delegation.

The film, which had five screenings in the festival, got good reviews from the Italian press.

It tells the story of a Badjao midwife (Nora) coping with her own infertility.
