The real battle is on. Artista Academy Best Actor and Actress Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert respectively are taking their first acid test as performers via TV5’s upcoming soap, “Never Say Good-bye.”
The acting newbies will be pitting talents with award-winning actors Nora Aunor, Cesar Montano, Alice Dixson, Edgar Allan Guzman, Gardo Versoza and others in the romance series to be partly shot in scenic Mountain Province.
The new challenge excites and gives Vin and Sophie the jitters at the same time.
Feeling the pressure
“Matinding pressure and challenge ito,” says Vin at the story conference TV5 called for the new soap, which its director, Mac Alejandre thinks will make the Kapatid network “very, very competitive in 2013.”
“Dito mapapatunayan na karapat-dapat kami at hindi lang masuwerte,” he goes on. “Malalaman nila na may ibubuga din ako at hindi lang ako basta kapatid mi Kuya Aljur.”

Sophie admits feeling the same way.
“Unang primetime show ito ng TV5,” she notes. “Malaki ang ibinigay sa amin na opportunity so kailangang bigyan ng justice ito. Kailangang pakita naming na kaya naming makipaglaban sa ibang network.”
Days before the cameras start rolling for “Never Say Good-bye,” Vin already has a few questions he’s raring to ask Cesar. Vin wants to find out more about Cesar’s struggling days as an actor.
“Gusto kong malaman kung ano ang ginawa niya nung nag-uumpisa pa lang siya sa industry,” states Vin, who is also gearing up for a first-ever concert with his musician-dad and Aljur at Zirkoh, Tomas Morato on Dec.8.
Sophie, for her part, wants to know how the veterans survive long hours of taping.
Missing simple things
She and Vince hardly have time for themselves these days. They work every day and miss the simple things they used to do when life was a lot simpler.
Vin admits missing lying on his bed and feels lucky at getting five hours of sleep a day. Sophie, on the other hand, still has to adjust to the hectic pace that leaves her no time to sit down and enjoy a manicure.

“Noon, I can just go to Batangas and meet up with friends. I can do anything na hindi tumitingin sa calendar of schedules.”
But they won’t trade their current life for the laidback pace they used to have.
“Na-boost ang confidence ko,” states Vin. “Dati, mahiyain akong bata. Ngayon, kahit papano, nakakaperform ako at nakakapagsalita on stage.”
Sophie was also able to come out of her shell and learn how to “fight for what I want.”
Value of patience
Her victory also taught her the value of patience.
“May mas maganda pa palang plano sa akin,” she explains.
And because they worked hard at their first shot at stardom, Vin and Sophie promise they’ll do their best to avoid being flashes in the pan like other reality show winners have been.

“We worked hard for this. Sobrang hirap ng pinagdaanan namin. So gusto kong maging worth it lahat,” Sophie adds.
Vin nods, happy at the thought that this time, he can help the family financially the way his kuya Aljur has been doing for years.
“I can also save money dahil kumikita na ako,” he adds.
And because they now have their own money to spend, Vin and Sophie are looking forward to a brighter Christmas with their respective families.
They are also bracing for a busier, more colorful 2013 – one that could make or break them.
Now all we have to do is sit back, wait and see while they give their first soap everything they’ve got.
