Korina explains absence from 'TV Patrol'

Amid rumors that she was either suspended or asked to go on leave after netizens lambasted her for criticizing CNN journalist Anderson Cooper’s report on the absence of government presence in Tacloban City,  Korina Sanchez finally explained her absence from the  primetime newscast “TV Patrol.”

In a report published in ABS-CBNnews.com, Korina reportedly said in an interview over DZMM, "Marami kasing spekulasyon bakit wala ako sa studio last week. Ang spekulasyon hindi naman totoo 'yan. Matagal na kasing naka-schedule ang 'Rated K' na iikot sa iba't-ibang nasalanta ng delubyo. Ito ay trabaho."

Korina was last seen reporting live from Ormoc City, Leyte on Thursday (November 14)— a day after she was quoted as saying, “Itong si Anderson Cooper, sabi wala daw government presence sa Tacloban. Mukhang hindi niya alam ang sinasabi niya.”

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas’s wife co-anchors “TV Patrol” alongside former politicians and returning broadcasters Noli De Castro and Ted Failon.

It will be recalled that  on Wednesday, November 13, Cooper described the situation in the domestic airport where evacuees flock to either get relief goods or board the military C-130 planes to escape from the aftermath of super typhoon “Yolanda.”

Korina also clarified that they’re now going around places hit by the typhoon for a special report on her Sunday magazine program “Rated K.”

She explained that Tacloban City,  the most badly-hit area after the typhoon made several landfalls in the Philippines on Friday (November 8), was originally in their itinerary.

"Pinigilan kami ng kumpanya kasi delikado daw so na-divert kami sa Ormoc. Dalawang araw kami dun," Korina said.

Vow to return

The ABS-CBN broadcaster also vows to return to TV Patrol as soon as her special coverage is done.

"Tatapusin ko lang ito, babalik din ako diyan. Inaayos ko lang itong for airing namin sa darating na Sunday.”

Korina also reiterated that her coverage has been planned early on and that the public should just donate to relief efforts instead of spreading rumors.

"Uulitin ko lang -- matagal nang nakaplano itong paglilibot na ito. 'Wag lang sanang pilit kinokonekta sa ibang bagay, ha? Pahingi na lang ng donasyon.”
