Korina opens up about one thing she lacks

Although she’s at the peak of her career, Korina Sanchez  concedes only one thing is lacking to complete her.

“Siguro gagawa ako ng anak. 'Yun na lang ang natitira [na kulang]. I'm never full-time for anything because I'm really constant gardener. I'm everywhere and so maybe even as a mother I'll be everywhere still. And that will be a big part of my life,” the 48-year-old news bigwig told Yahoo! Philippines OMG!.

Korina remains childless after almost four years of marriage to Interior secretary Mar Roxas II.

And while second-tier anchors may dream of taking her anchor’s chair, the feisty broadcast-journalist says she has no plans of retiring.

“I don't think I'll ever really retire from work that makes me happy.”

Returning to primetime newscast

In November 2010, after a management shakeup in the ABS-CBN newsroom, the network reinstalled Korina  and “Kabayan” Noli de Castro as “TV Patrol” anchors. Outgoing anchors Karen Davila and Julius Babao joined Ces Drilon in “Bandila,” while Ted Failon remained in the primetime newscast.

But before what media analysts perceived as “the return of TV Patrol’s glory days,” Korina was noticeably demoted from anchoring the most-watched newscast in 2004 and was placed in the late-night newscast “Bandila.”

“Oo naman [it’s a vindication], if you want to put it that way. But hindi ko rin naman inasahan din 'yun e,” she said when asked about her return.

“But I'm very happy I'm back where I belong. Tinrabaho ko rin 'yun at natutuwa ako na sabi ko nga nung nawala ako sa TV Patrol noong una e huwag naman sanang magtagal na ako'y magbalik ulit.”

Korina thanks ABS-CBN management for the chance to sit on the coveted anchor’s chair of the longest-running Philippine newscast.

“Natutuwa ako at nagpapapasalamat ako ng malaki sa management ng ABS-CBN kasi pinatawag pa talaga nila ako at pinabalik and naniniwala pa rin pala sila sa akin.”

Secret to TV Patrol’s reign

What is the secret of TV Patrol’s longevity?

Korina thinks the answer lies in the  anchors’ chemistry:

“We're very good friends. And we're not just good friends, we're real friends. And I think it really works for the chemistry.”

“Because I think a big part of TV Patrol is what you hear at the end. Pagka nag-uusap-usap na kami at nagbibiruan na kami. 'Yung iba mga private jokes so mahirap humanap ng ganun. Mahirap imbentuhin 'yung ganun,” she said.
