Will Angeline make it as an actress?

If  one is to believe her co-actors in Star Cinema's newest film "Born To Love You,"  singer-recording artist Angeline Quinto is on her way to becoming an actress in the true sense of the word.

The acting newbie got high marks from the film’s director, Jerome Pobocan and  leading man Coco Martin, who are optimistic about Angeline’s potential as an actress.

Veteran actress Malou de Guzman said that given the chance, Angeline could still improve her acting skills.

Very promising

"She is very promising, coming from sa mga konsumisyon ko sa kanya," she expressed laughing. " Pero nakukuha niya. Malalim po yung bata. Nasa proseso po siya na natutuklasan niya at na-express po naman niya ang pag-arte niya."

Malou hopes moviegoers and Angeline's fans  watch her movie debut and let her prove her acting mettle.

Co-star Albert Martinez knows what a first-time actress like Angeline could be going through. After working with her, he is confident there's the actress in Angeline is slowly coming out.

"The good thing about Angeline is that for a beginner, you see the promise immediately. She was able to deliver the requirements of director Jerome Pobocan.  She listens, which is very important especially pag sasabak ka sa high caliber na project and you are working with the likes of Coco who demands high caliber performances," remarked Albert.

He also credited their director for putting Angeline at ease in acting.

The veteran and the newcomer

Pobocan already saw the challenges ahead of him the first time he learned that his movie will pair Coco and Angeline for the first time.

"Nagulat ako when they told me na sila ang mag-partner -- a newcomer and a veteran in terms of performance. People already know Coco as a good dramatic actor sa mga independent films na ginawa niya. Hindi lang dito pero sa ibang bansa siya kilala. And si Angeline, hindi man lang sumabak sa TV ng drama. Diretso sa pelikula ang pagsabak niya sa pag-arte. Kinausap ko nga si Coco na tulungan natin si Angeline," Pobocan said.

Patience also was key in making Angeline's acting work. The director said  he had to explain each scene and what was expected in it. And he had to demonstrate how she'd act out her scenes. In the end, everything was worth it.

"Ako nakikita ko agad yung promise. Nakikita ko yung dedication. Yung gustong matuto, importante yun. Aside from that, sincere kapag nag-peperform. A good actor for me is someone who can perform sincerely and who can deliver a performance  na hindi di-kolor masyado," he shared.

As for Angeline, becoming an actress is an unexpected twist in her budding career as a singer. She still doesn't know how her movie debut will fare at the box office, but the positive words from her colleagues, already makes her feel like a winner.

Something new

Why did Star Cinema pair her off with Coco?

Malou N. Santos, the film outfit’s supervising producer pointed out that experimenting on new tandems is part of the company's evolution.

"We see to it that we meet the public's expectations by introducing them something new while giving them the same of what they have seen and crave for more of it."

"Born To Love You" casts Angeline as a tourist guide who teams up with a "fresh and arrogant"  photographer played by Coco. An out-of-town job sees them finding romance in the midst of  fights and misunderstandings.
