What keeps Sponge Cola going

Behind the scenes footage of the making of Sponge Cola's cover of the OPM classic "Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay" shot in Negros.

A carefully-maintained level of friendship has kept Sponge Cola going for more than a decade.

In a recent chat with the press, frontman Yael Yuzon tried defining their kind of bonding.

"Friends kami in an exact way," he noted.

He later found a more accurate way of describing their relationship.

"We're friends in just the right way."

The band spokesperson got emotional about his friendship with the other 'Sponges,' especially bassist Gosh Dilay and guitarist Armo Armovit who have been with him since the day they became popular.

They're celebrating the band’s 13th year with a bang – via their first major concert, dubbed  “Maximum Capacity” at the  Music Museum on July 19, 8pm.

The show promises to maximize the band’s opportunity to sing its biggest hits, live.

Understandably, the fourth band member, Ted Mark "Tmac" Cruz, couldn't be taken in within the perceived inner circle since he only became a permanent member in late 2009. He replaced original drummer Chris Cantada who had to leave due to health reasons, but rest assured Ted Mark is getting along with the rest of the gang.

Yael described their closeness: "We're close but not close enough to share underwear!"

Fun Night

"Maximum Capacity" will have Gary Valenciano and Dolphy’s daughter Zia Quizon as special guests.

Other surprise guests are expected to appear in the show that comes the night before Yael joins other celebrity interpreters for the finals of the Philpop Songwriting festival, where he will interpret the entry "Segundo."

Yael is thrilled at the chance to give back to the band’s supporters.

“Aside from being a celebration of our 13th year in the local scene, the concert is also our way of giving thanks to everyone generously supporting us."
