"The Voice of the Philippines” contestants tried their best to impress the viewers to earn votes that could save them from elimination during their first ‘live show’ on Sunday, August 25

Those who survived the elimination via text votes were Darryl Shy from Team Lea, Myk Perez (Team Bamboo), Thor Dulay (Team Apl) and Morisette Amon (Team Sarah).

Voting was done during commercial breaks and the elimination took place at the end of the show. Each judge chose one of two singers from his or her team whom text votes were unable to save.

Team Apl

Recording artist and back-up singer Thor maintained his position as the viewers’ popular choice. Although under the weather, Thor, who sang Gary Valenciano’s “Narito,” bested teammates Cora dela Cruz and Jessica Reynoso through text voting.

“Wow, ang galing! Super bilib ako sa iyo, I know you have a cold but I didn’t see anything of that tonight. Proud na proud (ako). May fever pa rin iyan,” apl.de.ap said.

Even if he told Cora she has a “unique and authentic” voice, Apl chose Jessica in the end. Cora performed “Nosi Ba Lasi,” while Jessica sang “Fantasia’s “I Believe.”

Team Lea

Darryl beat former Kulay member Radha Tinsay and Filipino-Am banker RJ dela Fuente. The singer from Baguio rendered “Danny’s song” and got 51.41 percent of the votes.

Lea chose Radha, who sang Tina Turner’s “River Deep Mountain High” to stay in the competition.

“Wow, nag-risk ka ha. There’s a risk that you took and that’s fine. Lahat ng pinag-usapan natin, wala na akong maihihingi pa, vocally, intention, kung ano ang iniisip mo,” Lea told Radha.

Team Bamboo

Myk bested teammates Lee Grane and Talia Reyes with his (Myk’s) mash-up of Katy Perry’s “California Girl” and Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” in his guitar.

Bamboo chose Lee over Talia, who sang Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”

“This is a showcase for you to expose yourself in this musical journey. You’re an artist. I know that whoever goes home tonight will pick your guitar and will keep going. Ang ililigtas ko tonight, it’s gotta be Lee,” Bamboo said.

Team Sarah

Morissette, Sarah Geronimo’s lookalike, received the most number of votes over teammates Junji Arias and Eva delos Santos. Morissette, got  57.16 percent of the votes with her version of  Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts.”

“You’re a much better version of me. Napakagaling mo. You’re only 17,” Sarah told Morissette.

Eva and Junji performed on the piano. Eva interpreted “So Far Away,” while Junji sang “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” Although Lea felt  Eva “oversang,” Sarah still chose her (Eva) to stay put  in the competition.
