TV5 show adjusts as Nora deals with health problems

"Never Say Goodbye" cast: Nora Aunor

Nora Aunor’s stay in the TV5 soap opera “Never Say Goodbye” is now a question mark due to  health problems.  Earlier reports revealed that the actress had to stop taping for the show a few days in order to rest.

And while a TV5 executive dispelled rumors that Eula Valdez will replace the Superstar in the said show, Nora’s status still hangs in the balance as she continues to grapple with health problems.

“Never Say Goodbye”director Mac Alejandre said the show is indeed affected by Nora’s condition, but they had and will continue to cope with the situation.

“The production had to adjust because we had to take care of the health concerns of Nora Aunor,” Alejandre told members of the press in an interview on Thursday, February 7. “Pero nasa soap pa rin siya.”

He added, “Wala tayong magagawa kung may sakit si Ate Guy. Kailangang alagaan ng network ang kalagayan ni Ate Guy. Inuuna namin yun.”

Flashback scenes

Adjustments to the show include adding “flashback” scenes (young Nora will be played by TV5 young actress Eula Caballero) and editing the script to replace Nora with other characters.

“Ang importante, may mga eksena na magbibigay ng point,” he said.

Alejandre assured everyone, “It is not that substantial para ma-harm yung show.”

Nora has resumed taping for the soap  but she is still not in tiptop shape.

“Kapag napapagod na siya, pag gabi na, nahihirapan yung boses niya. Nagiging hoarse. Sumama yung boses niya tapos hinahapo siya. Nilalagnat siya, tapos minsan nangingig siya dahil sa pagod. Kailangan namin unahin ang health. Mas malakas na siya ngayon pero di pa siya okay,” the TV5 director said.

They already finished three weeks worth of episodes for “Never Say Goodbye.”

How will the show fare after that?

“We will have to wait,” Alejandre replied.

He further explained, “Sa ngayon it’s safe e. Kasi nagawan namin ng paraan. We will have to wait for  advice from the doctor kung ano ang dapat gawin. But so far, we will air na may nakabangko, and by the time na mailabas ang kung ano ang dapat gawin, may nakahandang option sa production.”

Tough competition

Nora’s health isn’t the only hurdle the show has to deal with. It also faces  very tough competition.

“Never Say Goodbye” is aired after the competing network’s news programs. TV5’s first soap opera on primetime is up against ABS-CBN’s “Juan Dela Cruz” and GMA-7’s “Indio.” But Alejandre remains optimistic.

“Everybody is happy to present an option in primetime viewing,” he said. “Malalakas ang mga katapat namin. Pero ang inaalay naming sa inyo is a visually-rich, mula-sa-puso ‘Never Say Goodbye’.”

The director added, “Bahala silang pagpiliin kung ano ang uunahin nila: ang mga pantasya o ang puso.”

“Never Say Goodbye” premieres Monday, February 11 on TV5.
