The magic of Mario Maurer

His “Suddenly It’s Magic” co-stars describe him as kind, charming, down-to-earth and playful.

But Thai actor Mario Maurer thinks it’s his transparent nature that connects him most to Filipino fans.

“Because I’m (true) to myself and I don’t pretend to be someone else,” Maurer explained what he thinks is the secret behind his popularity at the press conference of “Suddenly It’s Magic” in ABS-CBN compound on Monday, October 29.

The soft-spoken 23-year-old actor shares that he reaches out to fans often through Twitter and takes time out to pose for photos with them.

“Sometimes when I go to the mall, instead of enjoying my personal time, I have to share it with the fans. For me it’s okay. Sometimes my friends ask but now they understand that it’s part of my job.”

After coming and going to the Philippines a few times to film the Star Cinema project and to shoot endorsements, Mario has fallen in love with the country and its people.

“The Philippines is very nice. I went to Ilocos, it’s also nice there but people tell me that there are more places to go. It’s nice already but I know there are more beautiful places and I really want to go there.”

On Filipino women

Maurer finds Flipinas “nice and sexy.”

He added that  he and his “Suddenly It’s Magic” co-stars -- female lead Erich Gonzales, Joross Gamboa, Joy Viado, Kakai Bautista, Dionne Monsanto, Dinkee Doo and Ces Quesada are one big family.

“I feel the magic, for me to work with all the actors and to be able to work in the Philippines is magic for me too.  Every day we had fun on the set. Sometimes Direk (Rory Quintos) had to say we have to focus because we were always laughing,” the Thai superstar said.

“Suddenly it’s Magic” marks Mario’s first time to have English speaking lines in a film.  He thanked his director and his costars for guiding him.

“At first I thought it would be hard to work with her (direk  Rory). This is the first movie wherein I have to speak in English so it’s very hard for me. After I worked with Direk, I found out that she's very nice and she taught me a lot. The Filipinos are very nice. On the first day I came here, when I talked to Direk, she told me that we’re going to be a family, everyone including the actors, actresses, and the crew.”

“Suddenly It’s Magic” opens Oct. 31 in theaters nationwide.
