Nora, Jericho lead 36th Urian awards

Nora Aunor and Jericho Rosales led the 36th Gawad Urian Awards held at NBC Tent on Tuesday, June 18, by bagging the Best Actress and Best Actor awards of “Thy Womb” and “Alagwa,” respectively.

“Masaya sa pakiramdam kung ang mga kababayan ang nagbibigayng karangalan. Urian ang unang nagbigay sa akin ng karangalan bilang aktres,”Nora said onstage. Nora’s first UrianBest Actress award was for the film “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos” in 1976.

The award is the Superstar's seventh Urian Best Actress trophy, making her the second most-awarded actress in the said award-giving body after Vilma Santos who has so far clinched eight trophies.

It was Jericho’s first Gawad Urian Best Actor award. LastMay, he was cited for Outstanding Acting Achievement at the California-based Newport Beach FilmFestival, also for Alagwa.

“Baguhan lang po ako sa indie films. Hindi ko alam na ditoko pala matatagpuan ‘yung galak bilang isang actor,” Jericho said.

Indie films dominated this year’s list of nominees. ArnelMardoquio’s “Ang Paglalakbay ng mga Bituin sa Gabing Madilim” won Best Film.

Veteran actress Mila del Sol received the Natatanging GawadUrian Award for her contributions to the local movie industry since the 1930s.Among her movies are “Giliw Ko,” “Pakipot” and “Tatlong Magdalena.”

The event was hosted by Xian Lim, Iza Calzado, Richard Gomezand Cherie Gil.
