MTRCB to ABS-CBN, Vice Ganda: Start a comedy academy

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Toto Villareal has urged ABS-CBN and Kapamilya host Vice Ganda to put up a comedy academy “to develop more creative yet responsible comedy.”

In a Twitter message  posted on Friday, June 7, Villareal said, “Let the recent challenges to Philippine comedy now serve to unite, rather than divide, the TV.”

On Wednesday, June 5,  the MTRCB met ABS-CBN producers and Vice Ganda on the  movement of comedy bar humor into television.

“While noting the wit of comedy bar humor, the MTRCB emphasized the dos & don'ts for TV to ABS-CBN execs & talent Viceral (Vice Ganda),” the government agency posted.

It added that ABS-CBN and Vice Ganda were oriented on laws protecting women, children, PWDs (persons with disabilities) and senior citizens, and broadcast code norms.

The MTRCB stressed the need to respect human dignity, and instructed ABS and Vice to avoid “potentially offensive humor off-cam.”

It will be recalled that Vice Ganda got a lot of flak after he cracked a “rape joke,”  among others, on award-winning broadcaster Jessica Soho during his recent concert at the Big Dome.  Vice has apologized to Jessica.
