The fans who trooped to the Araneta Coliseum on the eve of July 5 knew that Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue would give them one heck of a show—even before she appeared onstage. Video panels showing clips of male synchronized swimmers doing a sinuous routine gave people a hint of what was going to be unleashed that night.

Kylie didn't disappoint with her grand entrance. Much like Aphrodite/Venus in Botticelli's painting, she emerged on golden seashell, which rose up in the middle of the stage. Grecian-garbed dancers were in attendance.

Camp met with Cirque du Soleil in Kylie's Greek-inspired dance-pop concert “Aphrodite Live 2011 World Tour.” She transported her fans to the world of mythology, even as she sang her hit songs.

Can you picture a goddess singing pop songs? (Yes, if her name's Kylie.)

Greek
mythology riot

Elements of Greek myth created a riotous spectacle of gladiators, warriors, deities, chariots, and even Pegasus served as Kylie's "props." Though the production was smaller compared to the "Aphrodite Les Folies Tour," it sure didn't look like it.

In any case, the main "spectacle" was Kylie herself. She crooned and danced flawlessly.

While singing "Illusion," Kylie rode a winged golden horse, an impression Pegasus, while her dancers performed their routines. Then, when she sang "I Believe in You," she rode a chariot pulled by male dancers.

Pleasing the Pinoy crowd

In her cover of the Eurythmics' “There Must Be an Angel,” Kylie, clad like an angel, performed with one male dancer while rest were literally up in the air.

The Big Dome transformed into one giant dance floor as fans moved to Kylie's dance floor anthems. Kylie performed 24 songs, from her old hits to her latest singles from "Aphrodite." Among the favorites and those that got the loudest cheers during the concert were "Love at First Sight," "Get Outta My Way," and "Spinning Around."

As expected, Kylie's number one hit, “Can't Get You Out Of My Head” turned out to be everyone's favorite dance ditty. Fans began dancing the moment Kylie uttered "La la la…” “There are many beautiful women and very fine, fine men here,” Kylie as she faced the audience.

What made the night even extra special was Kylie singing her  hits "Especially For You" and "Loco-motion," which are very popular among many Filipinos. “I did research before I came here. What we will do is something we have never done before," Kylie said.

“Do you want another old one? Do we even have a curfew? We"ll finish this song together and make it big!” Kylie exclaimed before singing "Locomotion."

Kylie then ended the show with the first track from her "Aphrodite" album, "All the Lovers." “Mahal ko kayo! I wish you all good night. Thank you so much,” she said.

Needless to say, it'll take a while before the Kylie's fans come back to earth. Most of them will be stuck in Aphrodite's realm for a long time.
