Jessy Mendiola mends fences with JM de Guzman
Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola has decided to give her friendship with JM de Guzman another try.
“Ngayon, okay naman kami. Parang normal ulit. We’re friends, we’re talking,” Jessy said at the press screening of her new teleserye “Precious Hearts Romances Present Paraiso” at the ABS-CBN compound on Thursday, October 25.
Jessy admitted they have been exclusively dating until JM confessed his love for her on national TV. This didn’t sit well on the “Paraiso” star, who decided to cut off their budding relationship.
But the two are now back as friends – special friends – Jessy clarifies.
“Kasi lagi na lang siyang (JM) nagsasalita kaya nahiya naman po ako. Ayaw ko din namang sabihin nila na siya na lang lagi ang salita nang salita,” she said.

Jessy admits JM’s public declaration of love took her by surprise, but she realized fans would appreciate their honesty.
“Gusto ko rin namang sabihin yung side ko na, ‘Opo, may time na hindi kami okey kasi kung anu-ano na po ang nasasabi sa TV.’ Nabigla ako, sana man lang may heads up. Pero bago na na ngayon eh, mas natanggap na ng tao at naa-appreciate yung a little honesty,” Jessy said.
She also feels flattered that JM is very open about her feelings for her, even if they belong to different love teams.
“Para sa akin, for him to do that is nice and flattering kasi for a man to do that in front of everyone is really sincere. Para sa akin naman, gusto ko rin naman sabihin yung side ko.”
Jessy describes JM as “sweet and passionate.” But while she appreciates JM’s openness, Jessy admits feeling nervous as well.
“Nakakakaba. Kinakabahan ako every time na nagsasalita siya kasi hindi ko rin alam kung ano ang sasabihin ko. Thankful ako na ganoon siya sa akin na kahit papaano open siya sa mga tao. I really salute him for that. Lahat ng tao, lahat ng fans, bilib sa kanya.”
Meanwhile, Jessy and new loveteam Matteo Guidicelli are strengthening their bond with each other.
Closeness with Matteo
Jessy enjoys Matteo’s company.
“Hindi ko akalain na ganito kami magiging close at open sa isa’t isa kapag may problema kami about something. Natutuwa ako na ngayon lang ako nakaranas sa isang partner na sobrang open niya, iba pala siya sa perceptions ko sa kanya. I never expected him to be so humble, nice. Hindi naman malayo na maging close kami,” she said.
Is a romance possible between them?
“I am not closing my doors to anyone naman, so I guess, oo naman. Bakit hindi?” Jessy replies.
She is nervous about playing a mature, feisty character like the one she’s portraying in “Paraiso.”
“Pero sabi nila ‘Kaya mo iyan. You did ‘Sabel already.’ Pero kasi iba yung treatment niya, yung story. Tsaka iba na rin ako ngayon. 20 na rin ako, so may ibang level of maturity and emotions na rin.”
“Precious Hearts Romances Present Paraiso” starts airing Nov. 5 in ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold.
