Jennylyn pleads: Spare my son

Jennylyn Mercado attends David Guetta Live in Manila concert, held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on 10 October 2012.

Jennylyn Mercado turned emotional when she fielded questions about her reported conflict with ex-boyfriend Patrick Garcia.

In an interview with Patrick, he said the actress is prohibiting him from seeing their son, four-year-old Alex Jazz. The Kapamilya actor said the issue stemmed from his inability to provide financial support for Jazz during that time.

Although Jennylyn didn’t want to comment on the issue at first for the sake of their child, the Kapuso actress said she is not stopping Patrick from seeing their son.

She added he is welcome to see Jazz “any time, kung gusto nila.”

“Basta ang importante, wag lang kaming magamit ng anak ko, please. Respeto lang,” the Kapuso actress told the entertainment media during her contract signing with GMA-7 on Wednesday, January 30.

The teary-eyed Jennylyn further said: Sa akin kasi, wag lang ako saka yung anak ko.”

Jennylyn proceeded to cry for a few minutes and begged off from answering any more questions about Patrick.

‘Hindi ako iniwan’

That brief emotional moment was merely a sad footnote during what should be a momentous occasion for Jennylyn. Having signed a three-year contract with GMA-7, Jennylyn celebrates her 10th year in show business as a Kapuso. The actress started her showbiza career as the female winner in the first season of the artista talent search “Starstruck.”

“Hindi nila ako iniwan. Sa lahat ng pinagdaanan ko—nabuntis ako, ang daming intriga, ang daming paninira—pero lahat sila andyan pa rin to support me,” Jennylyn said of her home network.

She’s currently part of the epicserye “Indio,” as well as the weekly talk show “H.O.T. TV.”

Jennylyn said her boyfriend Luis Manzano knew about her contract renewal, but they never formally discussed it. She added that the TV host never convinced her to switch networks.

“Pagdating sa ganyang mga bagay, meron kaming kanya-kanyang buhay. Pag career, career talaga. Hindi pwedeng pakialaman.”

Perfect timing

The two were recently rumored to have secretly married out of the country, an issue Luis already denied.

When will they really settle down?

“May kontrata pa po ako (with GMA). Breach of contract po yun,” Jennylyn quipped.

“At marami pa po akong gustong gawin sa buhay. Bata pa rin po yung anak ko. Gusto ko pa siyang ma-enjoy. Marami pa kaming gustong gawin together,” she explained.

But Jennylyn admitted Luis came into her life at the “right place” and the “right time.”

“Perfect timing,” she said.

What makes their relationship work?

“Siguro yung pagiging peaceful din nung relationship. Kasi  ayaw din namin ng masyadong exposed,”  she replied.
