How romantic is Mario Maurer?

Thai actor Mario Maurer, popularly known as P’Shone in the romantic-comedy “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” says his film character is more romantic than what he really is.

“P’Shone is a lot more romantic than me. But I think what he did was very nice,” Mario told the press after he arrived in Manila last Wednesday for a series of activities, including a fan conference for Penshoppe and a contract-signing for his Star Cinema movie.

It took years for "P’Shone" to finally summon the courage to confess his love for the girl of his dreams, something that Mario won't ever do in real life.

“I will not wait for nine years, even eight years. I wouldn’t wait that long. I would tell her a lot sooner,” Mario said during the pocket media interview on Friday, October 28.

Mario mingled and interacted with fans at the PICC Plenary Hall as he was formally launched as Penshoppe’s newest ambassador. Thousands of fans flocked to the venue to get a glimpse of their idol.

Aside from his good looks, many fans fell in love with Mario for his effective portrayal and relatable character in the movie.

Sweetest thing

Mario revealed that the sweetest thing he has done for a girl was when he sprung a birthday surprise for his girlfriend.

“It was my girlfriend’s birthday. I bought a big balloon, I put it in her car and wrote something about her. I brought her to a shop like a steak shop and I prepared a cake. I asked the waiter that the cake would come at this time and I greeted her a happy birthday,” Mario shared to the press.

What does he first notice in a girl?

“First, it should be [the] face. Second is the hair, the eyes, and it would be legs, and the hips. It’s what makes women really sexy,” Mario shared.

Mario was all-smiles at the fan conference, where he shook hands with fans and gamely accommodated them for picture-taking. All-girl Pan-Asian group Blush also performed.

Mutual admiration

“I find Filipinos very nice. They’re very cute people and they greet me wherever I am,” Mario told the press.

He also added that his best friend in Thailand is a Filipino.

The 22-year-old actor also revealed that his Filipino fans are different from his Thai followers. Pinoys are more eager and excited to meet him, and the feeling is mutual.

“It’s different from the Philippines because I only talk to my Filipino fans through Twitter. So, when they meet me, they’re very excited. In the same way that I’m excited to meet them because I met my Filipino fans only at the airport. Like about three or four of them. But today, I met three or 4000 of them,” Mario said excitedly.

Mario’s movie under Star Cinema is tentatively titled “Suddenly It’s Magic.” Erich Gonzales will be his leading lady and the two have already met. The movie will start to shoot next year.

Mario rose to fame after playing a gay role in the film ‘The Love of Siam,’ where he also won Best Actor in the Southeast Asian film category of the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival.
