Heart Evangelista gets more serious with life

Heart Evangelista, who just turned 28 last month, is now more mellow and serious when it comes to life.

“Now in this stage of my life, I really appreciate my job, kahit yung pagod at hirap,” she told members of the press during her contract renewal with GMA-7 on Tuesday, March 5.

The Kapuso star described the old Heart as impulsive and childish. The new Heart, she added, thinks more about her future. She takes her time—whether it’s about shopping or more serious affairs like  career or love life.

“Before when you’re in love, kasal na agad, I wanna get married. Now, wait lang,” Heart explained. The actress is in a relationship with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

She added, “ I have things to do, I have things to prove to myself.”

The Kapuso artist admitted she once  thought of  moving to another network. She  was rumored to be returning  to former home network ABS-CBN in 2010. But no such transfer happened.

Heart is happy with her steady stream of work in GMA.

“If you think about working for other networks, you’re not content. But I’m content already with what I have here. I’m good,” she said.

Stronghold

Heart explained that one of the reasons why she’s happier with her career is her better working relationship with her mother-manager Cecilia Ongpauco.

Ongpauco was known for being strict and protective with Heart. Reports had it that she and Heart’s father Reynaldo Ongpauco openly frowned on Heart’s previous relationships.

Now, Heart said her mother trusts her more.

“Siyempre, ilang taon na (ako), I just turned 28. Communication is better now, kaya naloloko ko na siya,” Heart said.

She added, “Before, I had no say about anything. Now, she allows me to express myself. I get what I want now. Kaya mas masaya ako sa career ko.”

“We also have our misunderstanding. But at the end of the day, hindi naman siya sobrang sama.”

Even if she tries to be more independent, Heart still seeks her parents’ approval.

“They’re your stronghold, e. They’re your parents. They give you confidence,” she explained. “But I still know what to do and know what it’s right.”

‘I listen to myself’

She added this has nothing to do with Chiz, who is hands-off when it comes to her decisions.

“This is the stage where I know who I am and I know what I want. And I need to do what I want to do kasi there will come a time when I need to move on and do something else,” Heart said. “I don’t really listen to anyone. I listen to myself.”

Heart hopes to do more serious drama and get more hosting projects in her next two years as a Kapuso. Kapuso Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable said Heart will work on a primetime drama after her current afternoon soap “Forever.”

Who would Heart want to work with next?

“Alden Richards is really good. Ewan ko kung pwede pa ako sa kanya kasi medyo mas matanda na ako. Pero age doesn’t matter naman, they say. So I guess it can work the other way naman,” she said, a quip that pokes fun at her and Chiz’s age difference. Heart is 28, Chiz is 43.

Heart also hopes to do a dramatic movie.

“Pag artista ka naman, sayang naman lahat ng pinagdaanan mong sakit at pag-iiyak sa pag-ibig kung hindi mo naman magagamit sa pelkula,” she joked. “I’m looking for an outlet.”
