Goin’ Bulilit star to compete in int’l singing tilt

WCOPA Philippine representative Cha-Cha Canete

“Goin’ Bulilit” child star Cha-Cha Cañete hopes to duplicate what fellow Kapamilya artists Jed Madela and Rhap Salazar did by bringing home the grand prize at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood.

Cha-Cha will compete in the Junior Division of the 17th WCOPA on July 12 to 21. The eight-year-old actress-singer will fight it out in five categories--Broadway, Pop, Gospel/Inspirational, Open and Original.

“I feel nervous and excited at the same time because this is my first time to compete,” Cha-Cha said at a  press conference on Wednesday, July 3.

Singer idols

She revealed that her idols include Filipino singers Sarah Geronimo and Lea Salonga and international stars Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Adele.

The youngest singer to represent the Philippines at the WCOPA is preparing for the competition by practicing regularly and shunning sweets.

Her “Goin’ Bulilit” directors and co-stars are rooting for her.

“Galingan ko raw po. Sana raw po manalo ako,” she said.

Cha Cha manages to remain an honor student despite her tight schedule in school and in showbiz.

“Pagkatapos ng practice ko, sinasabay ko na yung studies. Regular school ako,”  the third grader explained.

The awarding ceremony on July 19 will induct Jed into the WCOPA  Hall of Fame.
