GMA chair denies he is related to Deniece Cornejo

GMA 7 Chair and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon

GMA 7's Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon denied that he is related to Deniece Millet Cornejo, the 22-year-old student who filed an attempted rape complaint against comedian-TV host Vhong Navarro.

“This is to clarify that the complainant involved in the Vhong Navarro incident is not related to GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon," GMA network posted in its official Facebook account on Sunday night, January 26.

The statement was released after the photo of Gozon and Deniece, together with two others, went viral.

‘Lolo’

Its caption read,  "With lolo felipe gozon ceo of GMA 7 it was so nice to hear that they want me to be one of their princess #letmethinkitover #23rdtourismawardsnight."

The word 'lolo' raised speculations that Gozon is related to Deniece.

Vhong named Deniece as the girl he visited in a condominium unit at the Fort, where he was allegedly attacked by a group of men.

While Deniece didn't name the two others in the photo, there are speculations that one of them is former GMA executive Rod Cornejo. It is not yet confirmed whether Deniece and Rod are related, or if the latter is the 'lolo,' Deniece is referring to in the caption.

Some netizens are turning the issue into a network war by using 'Dear GMA' and #GMAPhilippinesWorstNetwork in their tweets.

Getting Vhong’s side

GMA also clarified that it sought Vhong’s side on the issue through his manager Chito Rono and lawyer Alma Mallonga.

“From the moment GMA News learned of the story, it sought the side of Vhong Navarro. (Chito) Roño, his manager, gave GMA News a written statement, which was aired yesterday (January 25). Today (January 26), GMA News aired an interview with Navarro’s lawyer, Atty. Alma Mallonga. The report about the alleged attempted rape was based  on the blotter filed at the Investigative Section of the Southern Police District where Vhong Navarro was taken after the incident. Other news organizations also reported it."

In an exclusive interivew on "Buzz ng Bayan"on Sunday, January 26, Vhong denied that he is a rapist.  He will reportedly undergo surgery due to injuries he allegedly sustained from what he said were physical attacks from Cedric Lee and a certain Mike, among others.
