Filipino-American Adriana Latonio failed to impress the judges during the semi-finals of the 12th season of “American Idol” on Wednesday, March 6 (Tuesday night in the US).

The 17-year-old aspirant sang Destiny’s Child “Stand Up For Love” during the ladies’ night of the semi-finals, where she had to compete with nine other girls for a spot as one of the 10 finalists. Out of the ten girls who performed, only five will get through via votes.

“American Idol” judges Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, and Randy Jackson all agree the song Latonio chose wasn’t right for her.

“In the midst of what we’ve been hearing tonight and in the level of where everything is at, I’m a little worried it’s not the best song choice for you because you have a really powerful voice which we could hear at the end but I’m a little worried to took too long to get to that. I hope I’m wrong,” Urban said.

Minaj suggested Latonio “work a little bit and come back next year.” “It didn’t really stand out. I think the song is too big for you,” she said, adding that her performance was a “little pageant-y.”

“You just need to come here and just slay it and that did not happen,” Jackson said.

For the judges, Latonio’s “Stand Up For Love” was lightweight compared to the more lauded performances of semi-finalists Angela Miller, Candice Glover, and Kree Harrison.

Latonio’s prospects of becoming a finalist also seems dim, at least based on the reviews by the US entertainment media.

“Adriana’s performance was so pageanty, I expected her to end it with a speech about promoting world peace,” Michael Slezak of TVLine.com wrote.

“That may seem harsh, but following Angela, Amber, and Kree, Adriana was a major buzzkill,” Annie Barrett of Entertainment Weekly wrote.

And the Fil-Am aspirant will be facing tough competition, as the female contestants this season are much more hyped than the boys. Judge Urban even said he feels a girl will win this season.

But in the end, it’s up to America to vote who will be the five girls and five boys who’ll make it to the finals. Results will be announced Friday, March 8 (Thursday night in the US).
