Derek Ramsay: I’m happy with my life

Kapatid star Derek Ramsay does not want to change anything in his life for 2013.

“I’m happy with my life. I can’t complain. Ang kapal naman ng mukha ko kung magcomplain ako. I have a very good family, I’m happy with my career,” he told members of the press in an interview recently.

What’s his New Year’s resolution? Derek said he aims to spend less as he is currently building his “dream house” in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Derek added he wants to “give time” for himself this year.

He said the past year has been a roller coaster ride, an apt description considering the major events in his life in 2012. “That’s my whole life. Everything — personal, career, even with family (was a roller coaster ride).”

It will be recalled that Derek and Angelica Panganiban admitted ending their six-year relationship last May. Derek also made the big switch from ABS-CBN and TV5 last year.

‘Everything that I’ve wanted’

This year marks a huge milestone in Derek’s career as a TV5 talent.  He is set to star in the superhero series “Kidlat,” with Nadine Samonte, Ritz Azul and Baron Geisler. This is his first soap opera in the network and the first of the said genre that he will headline.

Is he happy with how his career has turned out so far in  TV5?

Derek said he’s aware of talks claiming that his career has tanked since he switched networks.  But he disagrees with these obervations.  So far, Derek has hosted  TV5’s “The Amazing Race Philippines.”. He also covered the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, his hometown.

“TV5 is giving me everything that I’ve wanted. Talagang they look into who I am, ‘ano ba talaga ang gusto ni Derek?’ And they’ve given me projects with that (in mind),” the “Kidlat” star said.

He goes on: “Sabi nila laos daw yung Olympics namin kasi di naman ako nakita. Sadya naman yun kasi the Olympics is every four years and it’s a sporting event. We’re supposed to support our athletes, not me. I’m there to support them. I’m there to bring back the news. I’m not there as an artista.”

Back to acting in ‘Kidlat’

Is Derek pressured about  the pilot episode of “Kidlat”?

“I have no pressure because I’m having so much fun. Nae-enjoy ko lahat, nage-enjoy talaga akong gawin ito,” he said.

He added: “I trust my director, I trust the staff, I trust my co-actors.”

Part of the fun of doing “Kidlat,” Derek said,” is working with his co-actors. He describes Baron  Geisler as his “new little brother who I am guiding.”

“I think the people will be able to accept (Kidlat) because normal lang siya na tao,” Derek said of his character in the upcoming superhero drama. “Ako nga si Kidlat but this is gonna be a team effort.”
