Claudine Barretto and her father Miguel are disappointed at  some of the Barretto siblings who allegedly turned their backs on their sister and sided with her estranged husband Raymart Santiago.

Claudine is particularly miffed at older sisters Gretchen and Marjorie who allegedly believe Raymart more.

“Masakit. Ewan ko bakit nakikialam sila, away pamilya nilang dalawa iyan. Ewan ko bakit nakikialam sila,” the Barretto patriarch said in a press conference held at Rembrandt Hotel on Tuesday, October 1.

Is there a chance he can talk to his children regarding the family issue?

“Mas marunong pa sila sa magulang nila. Akala mo kung sino sila ang magulang. Sinisisi pa kami. Pinakiusapan ko na sila, ayaw nilang makinig. Gusto nila ang masusunod ay sila. So it came to a point na we had to choose. Si Claudine ang pinili namin,” the Barretto patriarch  said.

He  feels sad that his children cannot get along.

“It's either we are bad parents or we have bad children.”

Miguel hopes his children will stop taking sides, because his family, especially his wife Inday, are stressed out.

“Ang wish ko lang, tumigil na sila. Layuan na nila kami. Lay off us. Huwag na sila kumampi kay Raymart. Huwag na sila kumampi kay Claudine. Magtahimik na sila. Huwag na sila manira. Malaki na ang ginawa nilang stress. Si Mrs. Barretto ngayon, hindi lang stress, pati high blood ang [nararamdaman] niya.”

Miguel added that Claudine is the nicest among his children. He also shared what he thinks caused the sibling rivalry.

“Si Claudine, (siya ang) pinakamabait sa lahat sa kanila at tsaka binu-bully nila eh. Sa palagay ko, part of that is sibling rivalry because ang na-attain ni Claudine sa kanyang pagkabata ay hindi na na-attain ng mas matanda niyang kapatid na dalawa. I've been praying always for me to make good decisions,” he said, referring to Gretchen and Marjorie.

Reporters at the press conference asked Claudine how she feels about the rift with her siblings.

“Like I said, hindi ko sila pamilya. And sana palitan din nila ang apelyido nila,” she replied.

Miguel sided with  Claudine, and said that Gretchen and Marjorie can drop the Barretto surname if they feel ashamed of it.

“Pero kung ikinahihiya nila ang Barretto na pangalan, huwag na nila gamitin. Magpalit sila. Gretchen can use Cojuangco, kung papayagan siyang gamitin ang Cojuangco. I doubt kung papayag naman si Tonyboy (Cojuangco, Gretchen’s partner). Marjorie can use Baldivia (her estranged husband Dennis Padilla's real surname) if she wants kung kinahihiya nila ang Barretto. Wala, wala akong magagawa. Hindi naman sila nakikinig sa akin.”

Marjorie turned to Instagram to express her sadness and disappointment.

Marjorie didn’t name names, but because most people know Claudine is the youngest in the family, the reference to the latter is obvious .

“Hurtful! You are the youngest in this family but you treat us all so disrespectfully. From the eldest to the youngest you have never respected us. Enough is enough. I have kept my peace all these time. But this is too much. You have hurt me enough to last a lifetime. You can fool the world and make them believe that we are bad sisters. But you little girl... You cannot fool God. In time... We will be vindicated.”

Marjorie also reacted on Claudine’s statement that she wants them to change their last name.
