Christina Aguilera gives 'The Voice' Fil-Am contestant a standing ovation

Fil-Am contestant Cheesa Laureta finally found her place in a most recent episode of NBC’s ‘The Voice’.

According to ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol’, Cheesa’s performance of the late Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’ got her a standing ovation from Coach Christina Aguilera.

“It felt great. I’ve been trying so hard, you know, not to please but to find my place here and tonight was it for me,” she shares her feelings about the April 23 episode of the show.

After that successful night, Cheesa is now one of the top 3 contestants in Coach CeeLo Green’s team.

James Massone, one of the two contestants eliminated last night, expressed admiration  for Cheesa in TV Patrol’s exclusive interview.

“Cheesa has got the biggest voice and her personality is great, I love her to death,” he says.

Cheesa was born in Honolulu to Filipino parents who hail from Manila and Cebu.

She dedicates her best performance yet to a special aunt in Cebu.

“This is for my Nanay Insi. Mahal kita,” she says.

Like many Filipinos, the 21-year-old was first pressured by her dad to take up nursing in college. But now she shares that her dad and the rest of the family are very supportive of her chosen career.

While her performance was outstanding, Cheesa’s stay and success in the competition still depend on America’s votes in the next episode.
