The Sam YG Expose: Avoid the ‘Kilig Ninja’ and other tips to ‘sun block’ your heart this summer

The Sam YG Expose: Avoid the ‘Kilig Ninja’ and other tips to ‘sun block’ your heart this summer

Whether you love ir or hate it, there’s something undeniably unique about Philippine summer.

It’s QT with family and friends. And, the popular term YOLO (You Only Live Once) seems to be magnified in people’s minds.

Aside from the usual stuff such as the scorching heat, increased travel rates, shorter (a.k.a. perfect) shorts, I looked at other signs that say, “Summer
pa rin!”

For example, I noticed that the number of people who are SFS (Single For Summer) is also on the rise.

Therefore, as you apply sun block on your skin, it’s also advisable to apply some on your heart to avoid getting wasak... in English, "emotionally destroyed."

Beware of these types

Here are a few people and things to look out for this season:

1. The Kilig Ninja. That individual (not a boyfriend or girlfriend) who seems to be consistent and sweet then suddenly disappears one day. It might be a bit useless to ask questions such as “why?” or “what happened to us?” because chances are, he or she will have no answer.

2. The MOMOSILY kinda guy/girl. The “Make Out Make Out Sabay I Love You” species is known to drop the three-letter bomb DURING an impassioned kissing session. Chances are, the person just got carried away by the moment and didn’t really mean what he/she said.

3. The MOMOTA phenomenon. The “Make Out Make Out Tapos Awkward” occurrence happens when things just get weird after some lip-locking action. The usual cause for this type of emotional crime is excessive alcohol intake causing one to make out with a best friend, a close friend’s ex, or a longtime kabarkada (among many others).

4. The Auto Change Status. The Auto Change Status occurs when one arrives at a vacation spot without one’s significant other. For example, as soon as the plane’s “Fasten seatbelts” sign is turned off upon landing at the Caticlan/Kalibo airport en route to Boracay, the brain’s “landi mode” automatically turns on. One’s “in a relationship” status automatically turns to “single” or “on the rocks” for the duration of the trip.

‘Landi’ responsibly

So, while summer is fun for having extra fun, protect your heart at all times.

Here are a few tips to keep you in check:

1. Use your mind. Yes, you always have a choice.

2. Never allow alcohol to get the best of you. Drink moderately and landi responsibly.

3. If you’re in a relationship, avoid games such as “Spin the Bottle” or “Truth or Dare” after more than five drinks.

3. Remember: Hindi lahat ng hipon nasa dagat. Hindi rin lahat ng makati ay jellyfish.

4. Mainit na... wag masyadong clingy.

5. It’s alright to YOLO…just don’t do anything BOBO. ;)

Take a dip, try new things, make friends and enjoy whichever break you have this season. While you’re at it, don’t forget to show love to mother nature. If need be, save water and shower together! There ain’t no summer like a Philippine summer... go and have a blast!
