Razorback goes nuts in Singapore

At the recent Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore, I got to catch Razorback performing a closing gig. I wasn’t really there for them but I knew I had to go and see the band just to see how different it would be to shoot them in another country. Last year, I flew to Cebu to take photos of their album launch.

Razorback played at the Esplanade Outdoor stage which was a breathtaking area. It had a view of the bay, the Merlion and the city skyline highlighted by Marina Bay Sands.

The crowd was composed mostly of Filipinos with a few Singaporeans and other nationalities who had flown in for the festival. They seemed to be enjoying the show and appeared, curiously, to be hooked on the band.

The wild and crazeee Mr. Legarda

Another surprise was seeing the usually calm and reserved Manuel Legarda going crazy during the whole set.

But the crowd was having a hard time responding to the band’s contagious energy.

For one thing, the amphitheater wasn’t really set up for a typical moshpit.

However, that didn’t prevent one fan from standing in front of the stage and bravely rocking out until he was asked by the security to step away from the stage and sit down.

What seemed like an embarrassing moment was made all right when Kevin Roy ran across the stage, went down to the audience area, and then gave the guy a hug. I was in awe of the gesture.

When the set ended, the audience, still riled up, cheered for an encore. The band did the crowd one better by treating them to Wolfgang’s “Natutulog Kong
Mundo”—something that I was seriously glad I didn’t miss.

Here’s the video I took of it:

Even greater than their reputation

I understand that Razorback usually played that song back in Manila. It made me feel bad that I had to see the band perform it another country.

But it also made me see them in another light. It made me realize Razorback is far greater than the reputation they’ve already built.

Thankfully there’s Mosaic Music Festival to showcase that—not only for the bands we love, but the bands that deserve the spotlight.
