SHINee releases controversial photo teasers for ‘Sherlock’

Hallyu K-Pop idol group SHINee released a series of controversial photo teasers for their newest K-Pop album "Sherlock."

The Shawols, fans of SHINee, know that the young idols have been absent from K-Pop for more than a year due to their rigorous Japanese promotions last 2011. After more than a year's absence, SHINee is ready to make a comeback in K-Pop land.

Unfortunately, the series of SHINee teaser photos made available through the official SHINee website, created an uncomfortable divide among fans. Released one member at a time starting with Minho followed by Taemin, Onew, Key, and Jonghyun, the photos showed the young idols in provocative poses with some members even featured half-naked. The average age of SHINee is 20 years old.

The shawols expressed divided opinions regarding the teasers. Those who liked the photos pointed out that the boys are growing up and revealing their sexier sides while those who hated the photos described the shots as being too provocative and inappropriate for the idols. The photos, shot with a shabby chic background, also features the boys in unusually "feminine" hairstyles. Still, unlike their previous release "Lucifer," the make-up for "Sherlock" is more subdued. It is clear that SHINee seems to be going back to the fresh and bright pretty boy image of 2009's "Romeo." It is quite interesting, though, that the website photo shows images of bloody fingers. SHINee has been known to push the envelope when it comes to hair and fashion so the reactions may actually be good for creating the buzz they need for this release.

But what about the music? SM Entertainment announced that SHINee experiments with a unique "hybrid" technique for this mini album. The mini album will contain a total of 7 tracks including two individual songs "Clue" and "Note" which if combined creates one complete track titled "Sherlock." A different release strategy will also be used for "Sherlock" since the album will be available on iTunes and other music portals on March 19 days before its official release on March 21.
