‘Dream High’ surprises with high ratings

KBS drama "Dream High" is taking Korea by storm, ranking first among all nightly dramas on Monday and Tuesday nights throughout the country.

According to media analysts AGB Nielsen, the sixth episode of "Dream High" received a 15.8% viewer rating, an increase of 0.3% over its previous episode, finishing first for its time slot and knocking SBS' "Athena" to second place.

While the initial buzz of "Dream High" came from the casting of some of Korea's hottest idols, including miss A's Suzy in the lead role and IU, T-ara's Eun Jung, and 2PM's Taecyeon and Wooyoung in supporting roles, few would have predicted it would perform so well against "Athena," which stars highly respected Korean actors Soo Ae and Jung Woo Sung, as well as Choi Siwon of popular Korean idol group Super Junior. A joint venture between very influential Korean producer and entertainer J.Y. Park, and legendary Korean actor and musician Bae Yong Joon, "Dream High" is now receiving offers for syndication from all over Asia, including China and Japan.

"Dream High" may have initially gotten off to a rough start, with netizens panning the acting performance of miss A's Suzy in particular, but all indications now appear to be to the contrary. T-ara's Eun Jung and 2PM's Taecyeon, in particular, are receiving near-universal acclaim for their roles; lead actor Kim Soo Hyun's popularity is nearing matinee idol status with his role as Sam Dong. Recently, "Dream High" producer J.Y. Park guest-starred on the show, playing Yang Jin Man, a respected teacher whose passion for education and excellence leads him to train the show's leads for a special stage.
