2NE1 exudes all shades of femininity

2NE1, one of the biggest hallyu stars in the world, visited the country for their Big Dome concert last Saturday, June 4, entitled "The Party." Since the day they arrived, the girls of 2NE1 including members CL, Park Bom, Sandara, and Minzy have captivated fans with their beauty, talent, and style.

During their meeting with the press at the Hotel Intercontinental also on Saturday, the girls of 2NE1 displayed a commanding presence upon entering the press room. CL, Bom, Sandara and Minzy were dressed to kill in fashion forward black outfits. 2NE1 is known in the K-Pop world as the fiercest girl group unafraid to project a strong image in their music, videos, and personal style. The energy 2NE1 inspired upon entry into the press room is descriptive of their prime position in the K-Pop industry. Trained by YG Entertainment, the same company behind K-Pop stars Big Bang and Se7en, 2NE1 has been unstoppable since their debut in 2009 with the single "Lollipop" recorded with fellow YG act Big Bang.

If there is a K-Pop girl group who represents the term "girl power" most fittingly, it would be 2NE1. Interestingly, the term "girl power" was popularized by another pop girl group in the 90s. Do you still remember the British sensation "Spice Girls"? In the age of the hallyu phenomenon, it is now 2NE1's turn to represent the ideals of female empowerment in music.

Although femininity traditionally conjures up images of delicate women, women are also strong and powerful. Upon meeting the members of 2NE1, one cannot help but notice that the four girls express all shades of feminine. The girls project the strong vibes of powerful independent women but also the soft charms of caring women.

CL, the leader, exhibited her fierce side by stating that she would welcome a dance battle with SNSD's Taeyeon. Sandara also described CL as "napaka-cute" ("very cute") which is not the usual image she projects during 2NE1 performances. Sandara, known for her shy and cute image, revealed her confidence by singing a line from Christian Bautista's song "The Way You Look at Me" and her own song "In or Out." Park Bom, the golden voice of the group, also revealed her unexpected "cute" side when she expressed that she is "addicted to Filipino food." Minzy who displays an almost masculine energy with her dance performances, is revealed to actually be very shy in person. No wonder 2NE1 has captured the hearts of many male (and female) fans. They represent all shades of feminine energy through music that empowers.

2NE1 is the undisputed top female K-Pop girl group in the Philppines as evidenced by the awards the group has received even without having promoted in the country. 2NE1's "Go Away" won the 2011 MYX Music Award for Favorite K-Pop Video. The girls also won Female Artist Group of the Year during the 2nd Philippine K-Pop Convention.
