Zia Quizon is happy people accept her for who she is and her style of music.
Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla’s daughter says, “I’m really an awkward, dorky person. I’m not glamorosa in person. So, my biggest fear was people might not accept me being dorky and awkward. Apparently, my charm is not having a charm,” Zia said in an interview on Tuesday, February 21, at Club Phi in Ortigas.
The 19-year-old singer-songwriter is slowly coming out of her shell and getting used to the limelight.
“Medyo nasasanay na rin ako. My mom always tells me na not everyone’s gonna like you, so might as well be the real you,” she said.
Zsa Zsa was busy taking photos and videos of Zia while she was performing on stage.
Zia rendered songs from her debut album, like the singles “Simple Girl,” “Ako Na Lang” and “Dear Lonely” which are doing well in the charts.
Her style, jazz, pop, and soul, is different from that of Zsa Zsa's and Zia’s older sister Karylle.
“I’m just really happy that people accept it. I’m not biritera, I just want to sing, I’m not stick-thin. I was a bit hesitant because I knew it’s a harsh world out there especially for people who are different. I’m really glad everyone is really accepting,” Zia says.
Does the positive response she is getting as newbie overwhelm her?
A bit pressured
“I take everything in stride. But I’m a bit pressured now to come up with a really good second album,” Zia replied.
Zia is nominated for the Favorite Female Artist, Favorite New Artist, and Favorite Song categories at the MYX Music Awards. She is also competing against her sister Karylle in the Favorite Female Artist category.
“I’d rather vote for her (Karylle) to be honest. We’re not really competitive. I’m the least competitive person ever. If I lose, it’s okay. (But) It would be nice to have those awards,” Zia said in jest.
Does Zia want to follow in Zsa Zsa and Karylle’s footsteps?
“I’ve never really practiced acting so much. But I don’t want to close any doors because I don’t want to regret that in the future,” Zia answered.
Zia said her top priority is music, but she is also keeping her options open in venturing into other fields, such as acting.
“At the end of the day, I’m more of a musician as a person. If ever I act, it would be musical rin. But I don’t want to stray off being a musician,” she revealed.
