Wolfgang launches its first ‘audionovela’

The hard-hitting rock band Wolfgang is back with a new album. Or albums, to be more precise.

Titled “Ang Bagong Dugo Sa Lumang Ugat,” the album will be released in three parts and—in true Wolfgang fashion—conceptual.

“It's a narrative,” explains Wolfgang fontman Basti Artadi. “It's a story about this corrupt politician and his lineage. His well-meaning son takes over, starts clean, and ends up becoming exactly like his father.”   The ourobouros symbol on the album cover (that Basti illustrated) ties in to this cyclical aspect of the story.

The band has been known to be very deliberate storytellers. Almost all their previous albums (including “Semenelin, “Wurm,” “Villains”) were stories wrapped in musical form. “Wurm” itself was originally envisioned to be a rock opera.

Basti adds, “I want this album to be our first 'audionovela,' so when it's complete it will be tied together by these other sounds that, when you listen to it, is an experience for the listener.”

The first chapter to “Bagong Dugo,” the aptly-titled “Unang Kabanata,” consists of four songs and is now available online. The first single off the mini-album will be simultaneously launched tonight (a full moon!) at 11:59PM on MYX, Jam88.3, RadioRepublic.ph, and other radio stations as well.
