Westlife back in Manila, admires Manny and Charice

Irish boyband “Westlife” is back in Manila for a one-night only concert on September 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The pop-ballad band behind hit songs “Flying without Wings,” “Swear It Again,” “Uptown Girl,” and “Seasons in the Sun” are thrilled to see their Filipino fans again. Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Mark Feehily have visited the Philippines four times - their last concert was in 2006 for the “Westlife Face to Face Tour.”

Since it’s been five years since their last performance in Manila, what can fans expect from the concert?

“Amazing show. Especially since it’s been five years or so since we’ve come here in the Philippines. Philippines is one of the biggest fans of Westlife, so I’m sure it will be loud,” said shane at the press conference in Edsa Shangri-la on Thursday, September 29.

“Tonight will be quite nostalgic as well since we will be singing old songs, also,” Nick added.

Westlife admires Charice, Manny Pacquiao

“Westlife” can only say good things about Filipino talents. Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao and singing sensation Charice Pempengco are two of the Filipino talents that the group greatly admires.

“Westlife” originally wanted to have a duet with Saranggani Congressman Manny Pacquiao, but Manny is rigorously training for his next boxing fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. Nick is a great fan of Manny, in fact, he has been tweeting about his desire to meet him even before they landed here.

“I’m a big fan of Manny Pacquiao. Unfortunately, it’s not gonna happen because Coach Roach won’t let him. He’s a great fighter. I wanna see him with Floyd Mayweather,” Nick said.

Mark, on the other hand, admires Charice’s world-class talent. Mark and Charice exchanged messages in Twitter when Mark tweeted a video link of Charice’s performance.

“I’m a big fan of her, she also said that she’s a fan of “Westlife.” I was talking to her on Twitter. She has a phenomenal voice, world-class. I’m sure Philippines is very proud of her,” Mark said.

Staying power

Originally signed by renowned music producer Simon Cowell in 1998 Westlife has managed to stay in the business despite the influx of new artists.

So, what keeps the group going?

“We love what we doing, we have a great career. We enjoy singing. We all love to be in the band. Until we stopped enjoying it, then that’s when we stop doing it,” Shane said.

Westlife Live in Manila is produced by Dayly Entertainment.
