Victoria Beckham called the response to her new fashion line “breath-taking” as she showed its new collection yesterday.
The designer debuted her Fall/Winter 12 line of high-end dresses at New York Fashion Week over the weekend to rave reviews. Yesterday was the turn of her cheaper and more youthful collection Victoria.
The line only launched last season but is selling strongly and Victoria has been amazed by the way it’s been received.
“The response has been quite breath-taking,” she told British newspaper The Telegraph. “I want to give my customer and the retailer what they want. It's still girly, it's still fun and it's still fresh and you can see the personality.”
Victoria’s baby daughter Harper was with her at yesterday’s presentation, sitting on her mother’s hip wearing white booties and brown blouse. “She likes to watch,” Victoria explained.
The collection consisted of 20 dresses, with the designer explaining she is going to focus on frocks for now.
While last season’s looks were looser, this time around Victoria showed beautifully tailored pieces. Some boasted round necks while others opted for a V, with a sleeveless tunic dress in metallic stripes a particular hit. Drop waists and pleats ensured these pieces were bang on trend.
Many of the frocks featured stripes of some sort, a red top and navy skirt or two-toned blue.
Jacquards have featured on many of the catwalks this season, and here was no different. One dress included a mesh neckline and jacquard body.
Prints were also big news, which has come to be usual for this line. Last season she opted for cat patterns, and this time swans were used.
Michael Kors also showed yesterday, presenting a layered collection which saw models wrapped in capes, blankets and other knitwear.
Frock coats and tartan were big news, as was tweed used in coats. Skirts came to mid-calf and models wore big hats, seemingly another trend to emerge this week following their inclusion in Marc Jacob’s collection.
In all the line was about warmth, but that didn’t mean there was no flesh on display. One model strutted the runway in knitted long-sleeve grey polo neck with matching knickers, with only fur boots to keep her cosy.
Today sees presentations by Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.
