TV5 is getting its feet wet on the reality show genre in 2012.
Perci Intalan, TV5 Vice President and Head of Creative and Entertainment, said the genre complements the Kapatid network’s existing programming grid of dramas, comedies, educational programs and other kinds of shows.
“Lahat ng genres, napasukan na namin. And there are others we are creating every time, like Aga (Muhlach’s) show, “Pinoy Explorer”, which is part educational (show), part travelogue,” Intalan said in a phone interview.
These reality shows are:
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Philippines," originally produced by Endemol, follows the original format of providing home renovations to underprivileged families and communities within the seven days. With the help of the show’s design team and kind volunteers, "EM:HE" brings a new home and new hope to deserving families. For its pilot in March, the design team will be led and hosted by Paolo Bediones, who will be joined by Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Divine Lee.
"Dancing Nation" is a nationwide dance competition while "Kanta Pilipinas" is a search for the country’s most promising singers.
"The Biggest Game Show in Asia" will tap teams from Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. They will vie against each other through games and obstacle courses. Host Richard Gomez flew to Malaysia with the contestants from Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia for its initial production. Also hosted by Joey de Leon, the show will start airing in February.
"The Amazing Race Philippines" will have new episodes for the year.
"Temptation Island: Dare to Win," inspired by Regal Entertainment's '80s classic "Temptation Island," delves on a group of beautiful people stranded in an island.
Intalan says that TV5 will have one or two reality shows at any given time and that they will run till the end of the year.
Dramas, he adds, will still be there. In fact, the Kapatid network is airing “Valiente”, directed by Joel Lamangan and starring Gina Alajar, Jaclyn Jose, Michael de Mesa, Mark Gil and Nadine Samonte starting February.
