Top 10 VOD films in the US: 'Three Stooges' takes top spot

The week's top watched video-on-demand (VOD) films were announced Monday by Rentrak, based on data collected over the period July 16-22, with The Three Stooges snatching the No. 1 position from American Reunion.

The Three Stooges, based on a short film series of slapstick humor from the 1940s and ‘50s, stars Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos.

New releases to VOD on July 17 were slow at the box office, including Lockout starring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, which earned $14.3 million, while Three Stooges collected $44.2 million.

The Dark Knight, the second film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, was popular on VOD with the finale, The Dark Knight Rises, currently in cinemas, and is No. 8 on the list of ten.

The remainder of the list stays relatively unchanged from last week, with holdovers including the epic sequel Wrath of the Titans, 21 Jump Street starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, the comedy send-up of Snow White, Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Robert Downey Jr. and Noomi Rapace.

According to Rentrak's OnDemand Essentials, the top ten most-viewed titles follow:
