The Voice of the Philippines: What team Bamboo has to offer
The Voice of the Philippines coach Bamboo Manalac believes he has found the winning team.
Bamboo's group, composed of Deb Victa, Lee Grane Manahan, Isa Fabregas, Angelique Alcantara, Myk Perez, Cordovales father and son, Paolo Onesa, Angelica Prado, Nicole Parada, John Duka, Talia Reyes, Denise Sagun and Dan Bilano will soon battle it out in the live rounds of the top trending show.
“Nakikinig talaga ako. Minsan kasi nagakamali sa tono, sa nota. At some point, iniisip ko na coach naman ako eh. Pwede kong ituro iyon sa kanila. Pwedeng kinakabahan pa sila, I empathize with them. I second guess, but I never regret. I picked the right guys,” Bamboo said at the press conference of his concert with Yeng Constantino BY Request in Plaza Ibarra in Quezon City on Wednesday, July 24.
Bamboo added, “I wanna do my best for my team para lumabas ang best nila.”
Comment on Aia de Leon
There were a lot of good singers who didn’t make it to the teams, including former Imago lead vocalist Aia de Leon, who failed to pass the blind auditions. Bamboo said that song choice is very crucial when it comes to impressing the judges.
“I can’t say that was a regret kasi nangyari but that was a hard day for me. Sa totoo lang, song choice lang eh. Song choice ang malaki sa akin kasi you’re telling us anong klaseng artist ka,” he said.
Bamboo adds, “Hindi naman ito end of the line. Starting point lang ito. Even sa mananalo, kung manalo ka man, this is just the ground floor. You still have a lot to prove. Nothing is guaranteed. You’re only given an opportunity. It’s what you do with the opportunity.”
Coaching styles
The viewers like how each coach show their different personalities. Lea is seen as very passionate, Sarah as very relatable, Apl.de.ap as a down-to-earth international artist, while Bamboo is admired for his cool image and natural expressions.
“Hindi ko pini-prep ang sarili ko. I want to be as real as possible. Kinakalimutan ko minsan na nasa TV ako. Mas hinahabol ko ‘real’ sa reality TV. That’s my thing. On some points, feeling ko, kailangan ko bang mas magliven up pa ng kaunti? Pero I just keep it natural,” he said.
The banters viewers see during the show is just "part of the game."
“It’s all play lang. Masaya lang kami. Iyon ang chance na magising kami, nakakatuwa eh. Like when one, or two or three coaches turn for one singer, so yung hiritan, laro-laro lang iyan. That’s what makes it fun,” he said.
While some think that they tend to interrupt each other on the show, Bamboo said that he just feels like he’s talking casually to his friends or family members.
“My job there is to push other coaches. Hirit ako ng something para ‘Balikan mo ako.’ That’s what makes it as good TV,” he said.
Bamboo and Yeng will be holding their concert "BY Request" at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 17. They will be performing songs requested by their fans in social media.
“To play with another artist like Yeng, game kaagad ako. I see in her that she has a plan for her career. Mahirap dito is to maintain yung relevance, hindi niya hinahabol yung sprint eh. Hindi mabilisan ito eh. If you want to stay long, you have to build it and work for it. I believe that she’s like that,” Bamboo said.
