The other pride of GenSan: Shamcey Supsup

Shamcey Supsup admits she's a GenSan girl through and through. That's why as a young girl, she struggled when her mom decided to move her to Manila to continue her studies. Shamcey, who was then only fluent in Bisaya and English, tried to learn Tagalog as she tried to adjust to new people and her new surroundings.

Soon, the girl who grew up in a remote farm bloomed and found her place in the city. She finished her degree in Architecture with flying colors, graduating magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines. She also topped the board exams in 2010.

But the woman who always had a plan found herself without one after becoming a licensed architect.

It was then that her mom prodded her to join the Binibining Pilipinas pageant. The 24-year-old, who only had a year left to qualify for the contest, decided to give in to her mom's request just for the experience.

Still, Shamcey took her training seriously, so much so that she resigned from her job. She, who never wore make-up, never wore heels or a swimsuit in her life, was determined to train to win the crown.

When she was finally named Binibining Pilipinas-Universe, the pressure was on for Shamcey to top Venus Raj, who won fourth runner-up in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant.

But the girl from GenSan rose to the occasion and impressed the judges with her beauty, brains and her distinct "tsunami walk".

Now, the architect/beauty queen is setting her sights, not merely on success, but on ways to touch people's lives.
