ABS-CBN’s Star Magic artists lent flair and glamour to the black-and-white themed Star Magic Ball on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Makati Shangri-la Hotel.
Since it was Star Magic’s 20th anniversary, the 6th Star Magic Ball paid tribute to the talent arm’s heads Johnny Manahan, Mariole Alberto and Freddie Garcia. The artists also recalled Star Magic’s journey, starting with the hit youth-oriented show “Ang TV,” where many of today’s top stars came from.
Angelica Panganiban and Diether Ocampo received the Icons awards as one of the original Star Magic mainstays. Diether was in Star Circle Batch 2, while Angelica has been with Star Magic for 20 years.
Real-life couples, love teams, actors and actresses and dateless celebrities walked the red carpet in suits and gowns mostly by Filipino designers, such as Francis Libiran, Rajo Laurel, Nat Manilag, Pepsi Herrera, Avel Bacudio, Ivarluski Aseron and Regine Tolentino.
Real-life sweethearts Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo, Nikki Gil and Billy Crawford, Melissa Ricks and Paul Jake Castillo, Venus Raj and Andrei Felix, Maricar Reyes and Richard Poon and Coleen Garcia and Gab Valenciano made attractive pairs.
Friendly dates
Love teams and celebrities who went on friendly dates were Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, who won the Couple of the Night awards; Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Empress Schuck and Ejay Falcon, Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos, Kaye Abad and Guji Lorenzana and Tin Patrimonio and Jake Cuenca.
Rumored couple Angelica Panganiban and John Lloyd Cruz walked the red carpet separately. John Lloyd came first, while Angelica, accompanied by Melai Cantiveros, followed a few feet behind him.
John Lloyd, Piolo Pascual and John Lapus hosted the event.
More celebrities went stag this year. Those who went solo were Coco Martin; Gerald Anderson; Julia Montes; Enrique Gil; Paulo Avelino, Matteo Guidicelli. Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Shaina Magdayao, Maja Salvador, Jessy Mendiola, Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Martin del Rosario, Jason Abalos, Thou Reyes, Jewel Mische, Iza Calzado and Carmina Villarroel.
Hanging out
Star Magic artists look forward to the annual event because they get to dress up and catch up on each other. Seen hanging out together were “Walang Hanggan” stars Paulo and Coco; close friends Angelica, Kim and Maja; “Mara Clara” stars Julia and Kathryn and “Aryana” cast members Ella, Paul, Francis Magundayao and Dominique Roque. Gerald left his table for a while to mingle with Coco, his co-star in the defunct series “Tayong Dalawa.”
“I’m excited for this event because I look forward to meeting everyone. Parang pack-up lahat (ng schedule) for this. Catch up lang with everyone,” Jake said.
