Sitti to change professional name?

Sitti wants to focus on songwriting and trying other genres this year.

Sitti may have established herself as a bossa nova singer, but she doesn't want to stick to just one music genre. The MCA Music artist would like to immerse herself in songwriting and study other genres.

Once she has decided what genre to explore next, Sitti might use a different artist name.

"I still want to preserve Sitti for bossa and maybe come up with an alternate artist name for another form of music that I want. Kasi sayang if I completely tanggalin si Sitti sa bossa, kasi sementado na iyon eh," she told the press at the  launch of her new album, “Bossa Love” under MCA Music.

This year, she would like to focus on songwriting, which she started exploring when she joined the fourth Elements National Singing Songwriting Camp last year.  Sitti learned a lot from singer-songwriters Ebe Dancel, Jungee Marcelo, Aia De Leon, Armi Millare, Gloc-9, and Jim Paredes and others who also joined the event.

Different focus

"I want to focus more on writing and also maximize what I can do with this genre. Kasi for how many years, hindi ako masyadong conscious or hands-on with the kind of music that I want. So this year, this is really a year to listen to what’s really inside my heart," she added.

Although Sitti has released an album of mostly original songs, fans want her to do more covers. This is why her new album is made up of purely  cover songs such as "Sunday Morning," "Smooth" and "Back to You."

"While it (previous album) was received well by some, siguro narealize ko rin na a lot of them want me to do covers in bossa nova fashion," she said.

Tough competition

Sitti is confident her type of music will weather  tough competition.

"Music in any form will always have an audience. Until now na, marami pa rin nakikinig sa music ko. Nagsimula ako na wala masyadong nanunuod. Masaya na ako. I think it's more of celebrating na nakakakanta pa rin ako."
