Rumor: Xbox 720 powered by voice and motion control

The next Xbox will require its hands-free Kinect voice and motion sensor to be connected at all times, according to information received by Kotaku.

The insider info comes from an informant known as SuperDaE, said to have previously listed a secret development kit on eBay against Microsoft's wishes.

The new knowledge confirms that a new and improved Kinect sensor will come as standard with every Xbox 720 (codenamed "Durango").

It's said that this new Kinect will be able to track up to six people at once, as opposed to the current model's two, and can track finger and facial movements.

The new console will also be able to pause and switch between different applications on the fly and makes greater use of the Xbox Companion App for tablets and smartphones, which ties in with Microsoft's emphasis on second screen functionality.

On the record, neither Microsoft nor PlayStation manufacturer Sony has made mention of plans for future consoles, expected to be revealed and sold at retail this year.

A PlayStation Meeting has been scheduled for February 20, and a PlayStation 4 announcement is considered certain; with Microsoft's project still under wraps, it's even possible that the SuperDaE leaks are part of a plan to take the wind out of Sony's sails.
