Richard Yap’s mixed feelings about success

His teleserye “Be Careful With My Heart” and all the attention he is receiving have not gotten into  Richard Yap’s head.

“Those are just titles. It doesn’t really affect me. I just try to do my best of what’s required of me dito sa show. I don’t let it get to me because those things disappear,” Richard said at the press conference of “Be Careful With My Heart” world tour in ABS-CBN compound on Tuesday, February 26.

Public adulation, he adds, is flattering. But it also puts him on the edge.

“Well they tell me na, ‘Nandito ka na, you have to deal with it.’ As much as possible, pinagbibigyan namin ang mga tao like pictures, pero naiilang pa rin ako. I don’t like the attention na feeling ko I’m just like any other guy, nasa TV nga lang ako ngayon,” he said.

Feel-good

Richard’s tandem with leading lady Jodi Sta. Maria is a big hit, but he still credits  the creative and production team for the success of their teleserye.

“Ang product naman namin ay yung story and how we portrayed the roles. It's full of love and inspiration. They feel good about the show and they feel good about themselves.”

How does Richard explain the popularity of his "Sir Chief" character?

“The viewers now are very mature. They know what is reel from the real or what’s on TV. I think they appreciated that we were very honest with them from the very start when I told them na I’m married.  For them, the sincerity and honesty is what drew them to the character also,” he said.

Richard adds that he’s open to more mature roles.

He adds, “ Nagpapasalamat kami na kinikilig ang mga audience sa amin, pero I’m not in the competition naman. Ginagawa lang namin kung ano ang nasa story and what it calls for.”

The cast of “Be Careful With My Heart” will kick off its world tour  this month  in the Middle East.  They will  visit the  US, Canada, Europe and Japan in the following months.
