Richard Gutierrez wants to focus on acting this year

After being more visible as a television host last year, Richard Gutierrez wants to “go back to basics” and focus on acting in 2012.

“I want to go back to basics this 2012. I want to go back to acting and do projects where I can showcase my acting capabilities. I miss acting,” he said at his contract signing with Viva Entertainment (which will now manage the endorsements of the Kapuso actor and siblings Ruffa and Raymond Gutierrez) on Wednesday, January 25.

Richard added, “For 2012, I want to challenge myself again and I want to reinvent myself again and do more challenging characters.”

Last year, Richard starred in “Captain Barbell: Ang Pagbabalik” and hosted the documentary “Oras Na.” He is also the host of “Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Couples Showdown,” which is currently airing.

New leading ladies

According to Richard, his next project with the Kapuso network will be a primetime action-drama soap opera.

“It’ll be different from all my fantaseryes. It’s something new. It’ll be very exciting,” he said.

Richard added he’ll be paired up with leading ladies he has not worked with before.

“It’ll be a big project, of course, primetime ng GMA. And, of course, ang primetime scene ngayon is very competitive. So, you know, we will try to create a great show and a big show,” he said. “Galing ako sa long vacation and I’m just ready to work.”

During the contract signing, Viva’s Vic del Rosario said he wants Richard to do a movie with Viva talents Sarah Geronimo or Anne Curtis.

To this, Richard said: “I want to work with everyone here in Viva. I’m sure lahat ng fans, gusto yan. I’m sure lahat ng manonood ng pelikulang Pilipino gustong mangyari rin yan. At ako talaga, I’m very excited na talagang mangyari yung mga projects with Viva. Hopefully, soon.”

No distractions

With all the new projects and developments in his career, Richard feels 2012 will be a “very big year.”

“Right now, I’m really just focused on my work. 2012, I feel, will be a very big year for me. I’m staying focused. No more distractions. Not only for my career but I’m also doing the Ironman triathlon at the end of the year. So I’m also focused on my fitness this year,” he said.

The Ironman is the country’s top triathlon event which will be held in Cebu in August of this year.

Do matters of the heart take a back seat too?

“Yung puso ko, medyo pahinga muna. Kasi kailangang i-develop muna for triathlon,” he quipped.

“Sports muna. I married to triathlon right now. I’ll focus on that,” he explained.

The Kapuso star is known for being mum about his love life. But this time, Richard said, he’s just really focused on other things.

“You guys know me naman. I like things private. Pero, sa 2012, nga, for me, no more distractions, just focus sa work,” he said. “Mahahati yung time ko this year sa work saka sa training. It’s a very exciting year and I’m looking forward to it.”
