Quizon family partitions Dolphy estate

The Comedy King left an indelible mark to the entertainment industry. Video produced by Yahoo! Southeast Asia and Digitank.

A few days into Dolphy’s first death anniversary on July 10, actor Ronnie Quizon said the family is discussing how to divide his father’s estate.

He told Yahoo! Philippines OMG!: “We hold meetings naman e. Obviously it's very fair naman. Hati-hati. Pero sa dami namin kasi, it has to be like consultations. And then we're not all together. A lot of us are abroad, especially in the States, so minsan kapag may papipirmahan, padadala pa doon 'yung papers [Then] babalik pa dito.”

It will be recalled that the Comedy King reportedly named life partner Zsa Zsa Padilla and son Eric Quizon  co-executors of his last will and testament so they can manage his estate when he passed on.

Ronnie said the pressure is now on Eric.

“We all assigned Eric to be the representative of the estate. Eric doesn't do anything naman without our consent e. He would always ask us. Parang laging may meeting.”

Ronnie  also related that some of the heirs have received their share of the estate: “May mga ano [properties and money] naman na nasa individuals na. Pero some are parang we decided na collective na lang namin. Hindi siya kailangan hatiin.”

The star of  the Cinemalaya new breed entry “Rekorder” added that people would be surprised that partitioning the estate isn’t that hard, even if theirs is a  large family—with Dolphy having 18 children from six different women (17 are biological and one is adopted).

“Everything is in discussion naman e. Wala namang problema with the siblings. 'Yun nga 'yung nakakaaliw sa'min e. I'm sure even people na buo pa 'yung family na same parents nagkakagulo e. I think my dad brought up us well. The mothers of my siblings are all okay.”

He admits that the family is still trying to get used to life without its patriarch.

“We're moving on. I can't say na we're all really okay in a true sense of the word because we miss him, that's about it. But we just really have to move on. And I think that's dad would prefer us to do.”

Dolphy’s legacy lives on

The Quizon family is organizing a series of activities to observe Dolphy’s first death anniversary.

“Simple lang ngayon [ang celebration]. Nothing really super big. Medyo we're practicing naman my dad's humility. Parang ganun naman 'yung iniisip namin.”

“On July 10 there's gonna be a simpleMass at the Heritage Park... just family and probably close friends,” Ronnie said. “Then on July 21, we continue my dad's advocacy in helping other people so we have a fun run called "Botak (Takbo) at Kadla (Lakad) ni Pidol Para sa Kabataan" where proceeds will go to the youth.”

They’re also holding a small get-together at the Museo Pambata, where Dolphy’s statue stands, on his birthday, July 25. Another medical mission is in the pipeline.

The comedian’s son was ecstatic to share that they were able to give back to Red Cross, which was the first to respond when his dad needed blood.

"Like last year for ‘Dolphy Alay Tawa’ where we had a big event, we were able to donate P500,000 from proceeds to buy refrigerators for the Red Cross.”

Through Hope Foundation, they donated a classroom in one of the schools in Tondo,  near Dolphy’s birthplace.
