Paulo Avelino mum on LJ Reyes

Most Popular Videos

Sorry, folks.  Paulo Avelino is not taking personal questions from the press.  At an intimate press conference for his latest movie,  “Shake, Rattle & Roll (SRR) XIV: The  Invasion,” Paulo merely replied, “I’m happy”  when  someone asked him about his girlfriend, LJ Reyes, mother of his two-year-old son.

If Paulo is resisting  pressure to talk about his personal life, he is more than open to discuss his career.

On doing horror movies

The first-time “SRR” actor (he stars in the “Lost Command” episode)  has a different attack when it comes to horror films like Regal Entertainment’s entry to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Sa horror, kailangan mas detailed ka,” he compares work on scary films with that of dramatic outings. “Madali kasi magbago ang story.  Dapat mas conscious ka sa ginagawa mo.”

This doesn’t mean Paulo loves dramatic films less.  Horror and drama, he insists, are equally exciting for him.

The lure of “SRR”  for Paulo,  however, stemmed more from the fact that he is working with acclaimed director Chito Roño, who megs all three “SRR” episodes.

“Enjoy din naman ako,” Paulo reveals.  “Pero kinabahan ako kay Direk Chito kasi kilala siya for being very strict. Gusto niya perfect lahat.”

Thankfully, he escaped getting the  flak from the  director  widely-known for raising his voice at erring stars on the set.

I play a high-ranking soldier na tumigis sa isang grupo,”  the Urian Best Actor awardee adds.

Paulo refuses to give in to the pressure of coming up with an award-winning performance each time he faces the cameras. “Hindi ko kailangan tapatan ang last performance ko.”

But he won’t mind getting a solo project to his name someday. And if it means going daring to the max to please the audience, Paulo won’t mind.

“Depende kung hanggang saan willing manood ang mga tao,” he replied when asked just how much flesh he can afford to show.

Christmas plans

For the right project, Paulo is willing to sacrifice even his leisure time.  In fact, he’s waiting and seeing whether a project will come his way or not before pushing through with plans to spend the holidays in his native Baguio.

He’s sure of one of his plans, though: to give his little son a toy for Christmas.

It’s but a little drop in the bucket for someone who played an important role in 2012’s most popular drama series: “Walang Hanggan.”

Paulo’s scenes, especially with Julia Montes, were heavy; his acting intense, as usual.  That’s why if he has his way, Paulo prefers to have a light teleserye and film in 2013.

Paulo knows  variety is the spice of life.   And he will give his right arm to enjoy this –  in his career, that is.

Now, where variety in his personal life is concerned, Paulo seems to be content at how things stand.  Just don’t ask him why.
