Pat McGrath: My Red Riding look for Miu Miu

As the fashion from the Spring/Summer 12 runway prepares to hit the shops, and ultimately our wardrobes, so is the make-up.

But while your body will be adorned in feminine white and pretty pastels, your face will be wearing bolder shades, as the season’s runway make-up often seems to make a statement.

Forget about subtle softness and go for a bright colour instead. Or why not a statement detail such as the confetti eye shadow seen at Dsquared or a crazy lash as seen at Viktor & Rolf.

“This season we did one thing,” says Pat McGrath, who was the creative force behind the make-up at Miu Miu and Valentino.

“It was about a big lash, or a bright mouth, or a black eyeliner.”

The make-up artist opted for a super-bright fuchsia eye that was achieved using both lipstick and pigments in an exaggerated feline shape on the lid.

“This is called the dark fairytale. I wanted something strong and red just came to me.

“And the outfit is a little bit folkloric so Little Red Riding Hood was an idea I had,” says McGrath.

Paired with the bold eye make-up is a seemingly nude skin, very little blush and a natural lip.

“This is excess but minimal excess,” says McGrath.

“The look is about pigments and perfect, bare, beautiful skin.”

Lose the drab and go for fab as you let your face be an exclamation mark this spring.
