Metro Manila Filmfest 2012 exceeds target

Metro Manila Development Authority Chair and Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) over-all head Francis Tolentino has good news for the local film industry. He announced that the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has exceeded expectations by surpassing its ambitious target of grossing P700-M from Dec.25, 2012 to Jan. 8, 2013.
 
Figures from Tolentino's office showed that gross receipts from the annual event totaled P767-M.
 
Topping the list is the comedy “Sisterakas,” which grossed P342, 210, 254. 19. Coming in second is the drama “One More Try,” with P170,516, 316.94. The fantasy adventure “Si Agimat, Si Enteng, at Ako” ranks third, with gross receipts of P133,567,172.34. The fourth biggest earner is Regal Entertainment’s horror franchise “Shake, Rattle and Roll XIV,”which grossed P45,328.550.71.
 
Rounding up the list of official entries in the 38th MMFF are “El Presidente,” “Sosy Problems,” “Thy Womb” and“The Strangers.”
 
The most recent MMFF duplicated the performance of the 2011 annual event, which also exceeded initial targets.
 
Besides mainstream films, the 38th MMFF again honored independent films via its New Wave and Short Film categories.
