Martin del Rosario won’t quit school for showbiz

Martin del Rosario vows he won’t compromise his studies, just because he’s in showbiz.

“Kelangan kong mag-graduate. Although gusto kong lumaki sa showbiz, syempre wala rin namang permanent sa showbiz,” Martin said in a pocket press interview at Thai Pan in Quezon City.

Martin, a sophomore student of Business Administration in UP Diliman, explains he would like to secure his future through education.

“Pag sisikat ka, pwede ka ring mawala. Para at least, nagkaproblema ka, anytime pwede kang magwork pa rin,” he added.

Martin admits attending school and fulfilling his showbiz commitments at the same time is hard and tiring. He used to go to school after the teledrama “Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin.” But, he’s also thankful to classmates who always help him out.

“Ang hirap, grabe. Puyat. After taping, diretso na sa school. Naka-make-up pa ko nun. Pero meron naman akong mga classmates na tumutulong sa akin, like for example sa mga notes. Kasi pagdating ko, ang daming quizzes,” Martin said.

He also doesn’t want to make his showbiz commitments an excuse for not doing well in school. Besides, Martin promised his parents he won’t let showbiz affect his studies.

“Dapat hindi talaga mag-suffer yung school pag nag-artista. Although dati medyo naapektuhan pero hindi naman na-suffer kasi with honors pa rin ako,” he shared (Martin was high school salutatorian and a member of their high school debate team).

Character building

Martin added that acting and studies build character. Although he has been in the entertainment industry for four years already, Martin remains shy and timid, unaffected by showbiz.

“Sinasabihan nga rin ako na dapat ma-PR ka naman. Pero hindi kasi ako masyado ma-PR. Tingin ko naman ma-PR ako, pero mahiyain lang ako. Hindi rin ako nagpapansin or maingay. Kahit naman sa Star Magic kasama yung mga friends ko, tahimik lang ako kahit maingay sila.”

Martin is getting more recognized as a dramatic actor. He has won two acting awards for his performance in the film “Dagim.” What keeps him grounded despite his early achievements?

“Yung family ko. Kasi pag off-cam naman, outside showbiz work, normal lang ako. Walang special treatment,” he answered.

Martin and Yen

Martin is being linked to young actress Yen Santos. They haven’t worked together but she was his date at the Star Magic Ball last September.

What’s the real score between him and Yen?

“Close kami ni Yen. Pero hindi naman po ako nanliligaw. Siguro parang ganoon lang ang nakikita ng mga tao kase close kami eh,” Martin quipped.

Star Magic workshops brought them closer to each other.
How would he describe Yen?

“Close friend. Kasi meron akong friends na friends lang, meron rin akong mga close talaga.”
