Makisig Morales is back. But he’s no longer the child actor many people used to know. He’s already a teenager.
“Namiss ko rin po yung pagti-taping kase nag-lie low po ako sandali kasi nag-aral. Tamang na-miss rin yung mga ginagawa ko dati, mas namimiss ko yung napapagod sa set kase nagi-enjoy lang po ako,” Makisig said in an interview at the press conference of “Oka2kat” in ABS-CBN compound on Tuesday, January 31.
Makisig, who is now 15, enjoyed his break from showbiz but he couldn’t set aside acting. He would still read his old scripts during school breaks.
"Binabasa ko or mine-memorize ko ulit. Tumitingin ako sa salamin, parang sinasabi ko ulit. Nakakatuwa lang po,” the dusky actor said.
Makisig has gone through the so-called awkward stage, a period when child stars reach their early teens.
Did he feel sad when he didn’t have any projects?
“Ine-explain din po nila Daddy sa akin na ganun talaga. Sinasabi nila na marami rin pong dumaan sa awkward stage,” Makisig replies.
Makisig adds that he’s happy to be back doing what he loves to do -- acting. He said that he understands that going through an awkward stage is just normal, so he just enjoyed being a normal kid during his break.
"Sinasabi rin po nila Daddy na napagdaanan din ng ibang artista yan. Kaya natural lang yan. Magkakaroon ka rin. Nabigyan naman po ako ng break,” Makisig shared.
Makisig stars with fellow young actors Paul Salas, Jane Oineza, Sue Ann Ramirez and Joshua Colet in “Oka2kat.” He may not be the lead star, but Makisig still feels pressured since most of the cast members are newcomers.
“Pressured din po talaga lalo na marami kaming kasama na medyo new sa show, pero natutulungan po kami. Kaya mas napapagaan po yung work namin,” he said.
As a former child star, Makisig was asked who he thinks among today’s kiddie stars show a big potential for stardom.
Makisig chose his brother Maliksi, of course. Maliksi also stars in the new TV drama “E-Boy.”
“Sobrang proud po ako sa kapatid ko na si Maliksi dahil laging maganda ang naririnig ko na feedback, puro positive,” Makisig said.
What advice does he give Maliksi?
“Lagi pong makinig kay Direk. Wag tumingin sa camera, mga ganun po. Yung fans laging pansinin kasi sila ang sumusuporta,” Makisig replied.
