Magic suspends Mo, fellow DJs for Charice hashtag

Radio DJs Mo Twister (Mohan Gumatay), Suzy (Tin Gamboa) and Mia Bayuga of Magic 89.9 were suspended  two weeks for putting “an objectionable hashtag about Charice Pempengco on Twitter.”

The three started the Twitter hashtag #charicepempengcosextape “as a joke” while their show “Good Times” was on air on Wednesday morning, May 9. The hashtag also trended on Twitter locally.

Magic 89.9 released a statement on its official Facebook account and said that the station does not condone the act. An apology to Charice will be made on Thursday, May 10, following the suspension of the three DJs.

The full statement reads, “The management of Today’s Best Music Magic 89.9 does not condone what happened this morning, May 9, 2012 on Good Times. As a joke, the 3 DJs started an objectionable hashtag about Charice Pempengco on Twitter. And apology to Ms. Pempengco shall be made tomorrow morning, May 10, 2012 on the said radio show. Furthermore, as self-regulation, the DJs involved shall be suspended from boardwork for two weeks without pay as consequence of their actions.”

Mo also took the opportunity to apologize to Charice on Twitter. He said sorry for the “stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs” and hurting Charice’s feelings.

'Stupid, cruel joke'

“I want to take the opportunity to apologize to Charice for a stupid & cruel joke on our show today. We attempted to be funny at her expense and, in the process, hurt her feelings. It’s with deep regret that we have come to learn that. On behalf of @suzy899 and @mia899, we apologize Charice for our stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs,” Mo tweeted.

He added that they are proud of Charice’s achievements, but failed to show their appreciation on their radio show today.

“You have worked so very hard, not just for yourself and your family, but to put our country in a positive light, to promote immense Filipino talent, and you have done that successfully. We are sorry. You’ve been nothing but supportive of our show in the past. We failed to show failed to show our appreciation today.”

Mo also asked  listeners to “no longer contribute to that made up hashtag.” Mo announced that  he, Suzy and Mia will issue a  public apology to Charice and her fans on Thursday.

“For those we tried to entertain today with our dumb attempt at being funny, I ask you no longer contribute to that made up hashtag. It holds no truth to it. @suzy899, @Mia899 and I would like to apologize publicly tomorrow on our radio show to Charice and her fans,” Mo tweeted.
