Luis and Jennylyn still going strong

Luis Manzano thinks the key to his quiet relationship with Jennylyn Mercado is respect for each other’s work and a knack for keeping their relationship as private as possible.

“You always have to keep a bit of yourselves. You may be showbiz personalities pero you don’t need to open every door to the public. Kumbaga, nagtitira kami para sa sarili namin,” Luis said in an interview at the pictorial of his upcoming Star Cinema project, “This Guy’s in Love with You Mare” on Monday, August 27.

Neither does working with different networks affect their relationship. It even strengthens it. Luis hosts “Deal or No Deal” and “ASAP” in ABS-CBN, while Jennylyn has a primetime drama in GMA 7.

“Nirerespeto namin yung trabaho ng isa’t isa. Walang pakialamanan sa trabaho. It doesn’t matter naman what station at lahat-lahat, it’s just how you manage it. We’re very happy. She’s very busy. Napaka-blessed niya when it comes to work sa kabila,” he said.
Finding time

Their busy schedule doesn’t prevent them from finding time for each other and having “something to refresh the relationship.” In fact, Luis wants to take time out from his work to take a short vacation with Jennylyn soon.

“We always respect each other’s schedule. I will never demand time, the same way na never ka puwedeng mag-demand ng time sa isang artista. Ang hirap kasi talaga. Pero, kapag nakakahanap iyon ng common ground, ng common denominator na oras, you have to make the most out of it,” he said.

Luis just resumed work after being in and out of the hospital due to viral infection. He is thankful Jennylyn took care of him by visiting him everyday after work.

“Ang lakas ng immune system nung babaeng iyon. Kahit gaanong katindi yung sakit ko, every day after work, nagbabantay siya. And proximity pa lang namin, kahit ubo ako nang ubo, kumbaga nahawa lang siya, kumati lang yung lalamunan niya, konting ubo, (pero) okay siya considering puyat pa siya from trabaho. So, I’m very thankful for her and for her immune system.”

Movie with Toni and Vice Ganda

Luis is excited to reunite with friends Toni and Vice in “This Guy’s in Love with You Mare.”  He has worked with Toni a few times, while this is Luis’ fifth movie with Vice Ganda.

Luis clarified that there is no competition among them.

“Iba naman kasi ang atake nila. I don’t see the point na maiipit ako sa kanilang dalawa. We all get along. Siguro may rason din kung bakit kaming tatlo ang pinagsama-sama ni Direk (Wenn Deramas). Siguro may nakikitang chemistry, na hopefully ay lumabas kapag napalabas na ang movie.”
Luis thinks their closeness is an advantage since he, Toni and Vice Ganda’s rapport shines on screen.

“When you bring three artists together, we always depend on the captain of the ship. At talagang hawak kami ni Direk Wenn. Kumbaga, wala rin sa personality naming tatlo ang sapawan.”
