Leslie Mann meets up with friends to “cry and scream” about turning 40.
The actress stars in This Is 40, a comedy about a couple who have reached the milestone age and are struggling through their relationship.
Leslie turned 40 this year and says she can empathise with some of her character’s problems.
“I think every day is different. Some days, I feel fine, and other days I feel like crying all day,” she admitted to Collider.
“I have lunches with my girlfriends, who just turned 40, and some of those lunches, we’re crying and screaming about our husbands, saying we want to leave them and run away. And then, other lunches, we’re fine and love our husbands and are happy with our lives… I keep asking women who are a little bit older, ‘When is this going to pass?’ and they’re like, ‘It doesn’t pass. It just gets worse.’”
Leslie is married to Judd Apatow who wrote and directed the film.
Her character Debbie is constantly arguing with husband Pete and the actress can relate to their quarrels.
“It’s what I would fantasise about saying to Judd. Debbie can say these things to Pete, but Leslie can’t really say these things to Judd. It’s fun to have this character to live through,” she confessed.
